Flavio earned a BS in Economics from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) in 2000 and a Doctorate in Mathematics from IMPA (Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada) in 2002. He concluded a six-month postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Paris 13 in July of 2009. He was a PRODOC/Capes postdoctoral fellow and Assistant Researcher at IMPA between 2002 and 2006 and an Assistant Professor at PUC-Rio between 2007 and June of 2011. During his academic career he did research on Differentiable Dynamical Systems and was the author of ten papers published in or submitted to international refereed journals. He has delivered lectures at thirteen international meetings and given three minicourses on differentiable dynamics. He has been on the jury comittee of seven Masters dissertations and three doctoral theses. He has advised seven undergraduate research projects and one Masters dissertation, and co-advised one PhD thesis. He received several research grants and was a member of numerous funded research groups. He held a productivity-in-research stipend from CNPq, the Brazilian federal research council, from 2007 until he left academia in June of 2011.
