The undergraduate program in mathematics at PUC-Rio offers students a solid basis of the main mathematical fields (analysis, algebra, geometry, topology and applied mathematics) within a flexible currilum. Our program is known by its excellence, having always achieved maximum grade in all submitted evaluations. It is also famous for the high academic level of our students (in the last ten years, half of them entered into Ph.D programs in several areas, in institutions such as Princeton, Harvard, New York University and MIT).
We feel that a broad undergraduate liberal education is important for our students’ academic life. They are encouraged to shape their own educations and can take elective courses at other departments of their choosing. As a result, several of them also graduate in Engineering, Computing or Physics. The wide professional range of the students allows them to work in different fields such as academic institutions, stock market, the oil sector and several public research agencies.
